Shoppes at Brookside

On Thursday March 23rd a meeting was held at the property by the perspective buyer to introduce themselves and poll the neighbors about what they would like to see there. The perspective buyer is the Raleigh Black Chamber of Commerce and the meeting was led by the President, Brandon Trainer. The property is located at the intersection of Glascock and Brookside.

About forty neighbors attended. There was a lot of enthusiasm for a coffee shop/bakery and a bistro/pub type business. Some expressed the desire for locally owned business tenants rather than large national chains. Neighbors asked for a small grocery that had fresh items and staples as well as good wines and microbrews similar to what Capital City Grocery offerred. Other ideas included a butcher shop,
a unisex hair salon, a school supply or arts and crafts store, a pet supply store or vet, a bike shop, a Kinkos type mail fax copy place, and a dentist or chiropractor. Another suggestion was for artist space similar to Artspace. Suggestions to me after the meeting included a small library branch or a storage system supply store. Mr. Trainer asked about an urgent care center but neighbors said that unless it was open 24 hrs we probably would not use it.

Brandon Trainer said that that there are to be solar panels installed with a goal of generating enough energy to be able to sell some back to the grid. A little more information about the property; there are seven residential condo units, all about 1100 ft2, six 2BR 2BA one 1BR 1BA. The retail space below the condos can be modified; the walls can be moved to accommodate tenant space needs.
