Anvil Studio/Gallery and Oak City Cycling Project Open on Person and Franklin Streets

Post date: Jun 19, 2012 4:18:48 AM

Two new and exciting businesses have opened in the Person Street business district!

Anvil recently opened at 715 N Person St. in a portion of the space formally occupied by Nicole's Gallery which has moved next door. Anvil is a retail studio, gallery, and boutique specializing in locally made fine art jewelry, metalwork and other locally made goods. Owner Becky Wofford-Waehner says they are looking for more artists and

crafters to add their wares to the shop: "We're interested in pottery, note cards, purses, clothing, soaps, etc".

If you or someone you know is interested, please email Becky at: anvilgallery@gmail.com

Oak City Cycling Project is officially open for business five days a week. They're located around the corner from Anvil and Nicole's Gallery at 212 E. Franklin Street, across from the Person Street Plaza, and their hours are listed below.

Wednesday: 12noon-10PM

Thursday + Friday: 12noon- 7PM

Saturday + Sunday: 12noon-5PM

Owner David Zell recently made the following opening announcement:

We're a community bike shop focused on sales, service, outreach and community. We sell new and used bicycles geared towards urban riding, commuting, and transportation. We're a full service shop so feel free to bring your bike by for a tune up or a conversion of any kind; we're happy to breathe new life into your bicycle.

We have community stands and tools available for folks to do their own wrenching. We lead and sponsor bicycle rides throughout Raleigh, and advocate for increased bicycle rights (such as bike lanes, sharrows and bike racks throughout the downtown area). In the future, we'll be leading bike maintenance clinics and a plethora of other fun events from our shop. Check out the events listed on our website.

Our goal is to have as many folks cycling in and around Raleigh as possible, while creating a culture of responsible, urban, utilitarian cyclists. You may have seen us this evening riding with a group of cyclists through the neighborhood on the Benelux Cafe Cycling Ride.

We carry Public Bikes, Jamis, and will be carrying Bianchi in the near future. Here is a nice video that aired on UNC-TV about our shop's mission, which was filmed at our previous location.

Here's some more bits about our shop:
