Purrs and Barks at the Health Fair
by Zinith Barbee
Saturday, February 19, the Raleigh Mennonite Church turned where it meets on Sundays into a convention center for the Pet Health Fair in the Mordecai Community. The three-hour event brought together eager students of the NCSU Veterinary School, generous businesses such as Phydeaux, Ace Hardware, and Market Restaurant in our own community, skilled volunteers from the Raleigh Mennonite Church, and, of course, people who love their pets.
Education booths, interactive activities, store donations, tasty refreshments, and contagious enthusiasm comprised the Pet Health Fair. A nine year old who lives in the community said she came so she could meet students at NCSU where she plans to attend. I greatly enjoyed myself--and I don't even have a pet! Most gratifying was watching pet lovers come together with people who care about pet lovers in a creative example of "love thy neighbor". This is the stuff of our diverse, vital community.
