LETTER: Raleigh City Farm Update

Post date: Mar 24, 2011 7:25:39 PM

Mordecai CAC,

Raleigh City Farm was pleased to meet so many neighbors in March—your excitement and energy is wonderful. We continue to work on negotiating a lease for the plot of land on the corner of Franklin and Blount Streets. The plot requires rezoning to lift several conditions that restrict urban agriculture on site; part of the rezoning process requires meeting neighbors and nearby property owners and hearing your ideas and concerns. It is wonderful to see such an active and engaged community excited about urban agriculture.

We heard many good questions from you, both generally about Raleigh City Farm and specifically about the potential for us to occupy the plot of land off Blount Street. In response to many of your questions, we are creating a “Frequently Asked Questions” page on our site and including more information about how to get involved, www.raleighcityfarm.org. We are excited to share that Raleigh City Farm recently received not-for-profit corporation designation and is applying for tax exempt status now. We will go before the City Council this summer for the rezoning process, and look forward to your continued excitement and support at that time.

Many thanks to neighbors that have reached out in various forms. We look forward to working with all of you as the project develops.

Best,

Laura Fieselman
