Capital Blvd. workshop this Thursday, 6:30pm

From Philip Bernard to interested residents

"Dear All,

Everyone in this email list has expressed interest in attending the Capital Blvd. workshop this Thursday, 6:30pm at Bobby Murray Chevrolet at 1820 Cap Blvd. Some have let me know they cannot attend or may not make it last minute and that is okay. There is a registration at the door so I suggest we show up a few minutes early so that we may sit together or at least know who is there from our neighborhood. I'll be standing near the registration table by 6:20pm. You can also register ahead of time at:

A good portion of Capital Blvd included in this study is in our CAC! My hope is to submitt the idea that Capital Blvd be used to direct more of the traffic heading downtown from North Raleigh and less directed to Wake Forest Rd. I'd like to see the west lane of Wake Forest Road turned into a bike/pedestrian lane. I also think that a round-about might work at the Brookside/Wake Forest/ Capital/ and Atlantic intersection. These are all ideas previously discussed in our various meetings over the years. I believe that our main goal is to make Wake Forest Road a more livable pedestrian friendly city street and less of a throughway in and out of downtown."

City To Host Public Workshop On Capital Boulevard Corridor Study

The City of Raleigh will hold a public workshop on the Capital Boulevard

Corridor Study on Thursday, June 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the

new vehicle showroom at the Bobby Murray Chevrolet dealership located at

1820 Capital Blvd. Registration and check-in begins at 6 p.m. and light

refreshments will be served.

The first public workshop is being held to define the corridor study

area, identify key issues and opportunities, and refine the next steps

in the study process. A brief presentation of the history of the

corridor and a preliminary inventory of known issues will be given.

Afterward, small group discussions will be held to gather public input

on how best to transform Capital Boulevard into a vibrant mixed-use

corridor. Capital Boulevard serves as the primary gateway to the heart

of Raleigh and offers unique opportunities for redevelopment, open space

creation, water quality improvement, and transit.

Parking for the public workshop at Bobby Murray Chevrolet will be

available outside the showroom and in the adjacent Flea Market Mall

parking lot. To register to attend, go to www.raleighnc.gov/planning.

Special accommodations for residents with disabilities can be made by
